WWE: 8 Active Former World Champions Who Will Never Have Another Reign
4. Mark Henry
As I mentioned in the last slide Mark Henry actually won the World Heavyweight Championship at Night of Champions 2011, despite the fact that nearly everyone had dismissed him as a mid-carder for life. After participating in some of the worst angles imaginable (Mae Young) and turning face to cut the only rap worse than R-Truth back in 2009, Henry was finally rewarded for his hard work and patience and in many ways is an inspiration to most wrestlers that their time will come, no matter how long they have to wait, or how much terrible booking they have to suffer through. That's not to say that his title reign was met with a warm welcome. At the time WWE was suffering from it's biggest lack of main event talent in decades. Edge and Shawn Michales were retired, Batista left to try his hand at acting, Chris Jericho was touring with Fozzy, Triple H and Undertaker were strictly saved for WrestleMania. WWE needed someone to pose a credible threat to Orton and Mark Henry was chosen. Fans wanted someone younger and better in the ring than the barely mobile veteran. To his credit though the Worlds Strongest Man had finally found his stride by introducing his Hall of Pain gimmick. After taking out Big Show and Kane, Henry was presented (and received) as a legitimate killing machine and Mark Henry made the most of what will surely be his only title run. Today Henry is back in the mid-card although he will no doubt be called back up to the main event occasionally, just like last year during his feud with John Cena after his acclaimed fake retirement speech. However his recent destruction at the hands of Brock Lesnar has made it clear that WWE has no interest in booking Henry as Champion again any time soon.
As a wrestling fan I've flown across the Atlantic for the last five years specifically to attend WrestleMania (28 and 30) as well as TNA, ROH, Evolve, Chikara and most recently PWG.
I may have a problem!
But if you're reading my work then you probably love wrestling too, so lets focus on that!
