WWE: 8 Active Former World Champions Who Will Never Have Another Reign

5. Christian

Captain Charisma can chant "One more match!" for the rest of his career and still not win the big one again. Granted his latest heel turn has breathed some much needed life into a desperately stale character, but the 40 year old has had his chance as far as WWE is concerned. After his buddy Edge retired in 2011, WWE needed a babyface to continue Edges feud with Alberto Del Rio and Christian was the obvious choice. Christian won his first World Heavyweight tile (in WWE) after defeating Del Rio in a ladder match, to genuine elation. Fans were delighted that long time workhorse Christian had finally been recognized for his contributions to the company. But then two days later Christian lost the title clean to Randy Orton. That result went down about as well as Batista winning the Rumble. Fact is Vince McMahon simply didn't see Christian as a believable champion, nor will he ever. Christian would then face Orton in four fantastic Pay Per View matches over the summer, but unfortunately the only match Christian won was by DQ. Even though he had regained the title, WWE did not want Christian winning by pin or submission, you know just in case fans mistook him for Orton's equal. After their feud was over Orton later dropped the title to fifteen year mid-carder Mark Henry who was permitted to pin Orton clean. That WWE would present Daniel Br- um I mean Christian as an unworthy opponent for their handpicked champion Orton, despite the fans supporting him, is baffling, yet hardly uncommon. If WWE weren't willing to pull the trigger on the Instant Classic back then, it is simply impossible to imagine them doing it now.

As a wrestling fan I've flown across the Atlantic for the last five years specifically to attend WrestleMania (28 and 30) as well as TNA, ROH, Evolve, Chikara and most recently PWG. I may have a problem! But if you're reading my work then you probably love wrestling too, so lets focus on that!
