WWE: 8 Active Former World Champions Who Will Never Have Another Reign
2. Kane
Four years ago I would have bet my eyes on Kane never winning the WWE or World Heavyweight Championship again after his first title run in 1998 (which only lasted a day). Yet thankfully I didn't because Kane surprised everyone by cashing in the Money in the Bank briefcase on Rey Mysterio and wining his first major singles championship in 12 years. During the summer of 2010 the Undertaker had been taken out by an unknown assailant and put into a vegetative state. Kane vowed to find and punish the perpetrator although somewhat predictably, it turned out the big red machine was in fact the culprit. In order to keep Kane as relevant as possible during his biggest push in years, WWE booked him to win the World title which he successfully defended against the Deadman in three of the worst consecutive pay per view matches you could imagine. And one of those was a Hell in a Cell match! Kane dropped the title to Edge at TLC 2010. It would also be the last time Edge held a singles title. Since then Kane has gone back to the mid-card, brought back his mask, formed a hilarious dysfunctional tag team with Daniel Bryan, returned without his mask again and currently serves as the Authority's Director of Operations. Even if Corporate Kane goes back to being the big red monster, the fact remains that he is 46 years old and his best days are in the rear view mirror. While a Hall of Fame induction is assured when he retires, one last title run unfortunately is not.
As a wrestling fan I've flown across the Atlantic for the last five years specifically to attend WrestleMania (28 and 30) as well as TNA, ROH, Evolve, Chikara and most recently PWG.
I may have a problem!
But if you're reading my work then you probably love wrestling too, so lets focus on that!
