WWE: 8 Active Former World Champions Who Will Never Have Another Reign

1. The Miz

It's been 3 years since the Miz last held the WWE Championship. He's still waiting for his second reign. And waiting ... and waiting ... and waiting ... When the Miz cashed in the Money in the Bank briefcase in 2010 (anyone else sensing a pattern here?) and defeated Randy Orton for the WWE Championship, it seemed like he had finally broken out of the comedy role and made it to the big time. Miz would go on to defeat Randy Orton at the Royal Rumble and Jerry Lawler at Elimination Chamber, but few believed he would retain his title against John Cena at WrestleMania 27 in Atlanta. It's a tough job for any heel to maintain credibility when booked against Cena. For Miz, it became twice as difficult once the Rock returned in February and cut a thunderous promo, absolutely burying both champion and challenger. It became clear that the feud was all about Rock vs Cena. Miz, the WWE Champion, was just in the way. Despite being completely overshadowed the Miz made his way down the ramp at WrestleMania following a supremely edited vignette detailing his evolution from reality TV star to WWE Champion. Like Mark Henry, Miz could be called an inspiration to comedy mid-carders and jobbers everywhere. It does get better! At least for a little while. The match ended when the Rock interfered and hit the Rock Bottom on Cena. Miz scored a cheap win. WWE made it clear that the Rock had beaten Cena, not Miz. Regardless Miz surpassed expectations just by keeping the title. A tainted win yes, but a win nonetheless. Yet Miz was not even allowed to enjoy his cheap win. Rock flattened the Champion with a Rock Bottom/ Peoples Elbow combination, just to make sure fans in Atlanta knew who the real star was. Miz lost the title to John Cena a month later at Extreme Rules. At Over the Limit in May he lost an I Quit match to Cena under circumstances so moronic I'd have to start a whole new article to describe it. He hasn't been anywhere near the title since. After main eventing WrestleMania 27, Miz made up the numbers in a 12 man tag team match at WrestleMania 28, and defeated Wade Barrett in the DVD Extra pre-show match at WrestleMania 29. At WrestleMania 30 he will be lucky just to appear in a backstage segment with Hornswoggle. Thanks for reading. Have I missed anyone out? Or do you feel I've been too harsh? Feel free to let me know!

As a wrestling fan I've flown across the Atlantic for the last five years specifically to attend WrestleMania (28 and 30) as well as TNA, ROH, Evolve, Chikara and most recently PWG. I may have a problem! But if you're reading my work then you probably love wrestling too, so lets focus on that!
