WWE: 8 Major Injuries That Ended The Undertaker's Career

5. The Weight Problem

In what could have been due to his back injury and other nagging ailments which stopped him from working out properly, Undertaker piled a significant amount of unhealthy weight on circa 2000 - 2001. He managed to shift it around 2002, but the issue of his weight was a big criticism of the period. Many fans felt Taker had let himself go, not only was he sporting a belly, he was also doing the biker 'American Bada**' gimmick. Between the ragged denim and his beer gut, he looked more like some sort of hillbilly than the fearsome Undertaker. The victim in all of this was his ring work. Many observers called for Taker's retirement in this period, with his added weight he was stinking the ring up, no one saw a way back for him. Remarkably he knocked the weight off and would go on to the most successful period of his career, proving all his detractors wrong. Chances are that this 2000-2001 period was all down to Taker's injury limitations. We know he missed WrestleMania 2000 with a reported serious groin tear and biceps tear. He was a really beat up guy who most in the industry felt was too worn down to continue, so of course he was going to put on weight due to inactivity. It's testament to his pride and dedication that he managed to turn this all around, the the pain of his injuries has always been something he has had to live with.
