WWE: 9 Awesome Tag Teams That Never Won The Belts

3. The Twin Towers

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9ztYzFSb_0 The Big Bossman is probably better known as a singles wrestler but he did have a good deal of success as the tag partner of Akeem, the African Dream in the late 1980s. With their manager Slick, the Twin Towers were formed after a Survivor Series match where the Bossman and Akeem handcuffed Hulk Hogan to the top rope and beating him down. The Twin Towers even eliminated Hulk Hogan from the Royal Rumble in 1989 after Hogan had accidentally thrown Randy Savage over the top rope. Throughout 1989, the Twin Towers wrestled the team of Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage in a series of main event matches, setting the stage for the Mega Powers colliding at Wrestlemania V. Their most infamous moment took place in a match against the Mega Powers in February when Akeem threw Randy Savage on top of his manager Elizabeth and knocked her out. Hogan helped her to the back and Randy finally snapped, setting the stay for the main event of Wrestlemania. The Towers did feud with Demolition, then the tag team titleholders, on the house show circuit but never won the titles for whatever reason. The Twin Towers definitely deserved a run with the belts because they could have had tremendous crowd heat if their matches against the Mega Powers were for the WWF tag team titles. Bossman eventually broke out on his own and turned against his partner and manager, becoming a solid mid to upper card wrestler while Akeem drifted along until his eventual retirement. While the Twin Towers did have their main event run, they should have been wearing the tag team gold when they did it.
