WWE: 9 Famous Wrestling Retirements (That Were Total Lies)

8. "Rowdy" Roddy Piper

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOYBgba3fL4 Roddy Piper is certainly a legend of the squared circle, helping the Hulkamania craze by being the ultra-heel that everyone loved to hate in the mid-1980s. However, people grew to love the Hot Rod due to his awesome promo style and "take no prisoners" attitude. After a leave of absence following his feud with Mr. T which culminated in a boxing match at Wrestlemania II, Piper received a huge babyface reaction when he returned in late 1986. Piper returned to find his infamous Piper's Pit set had been taken over by the flamboyant Adrian Adonis and renamed the Flower Shop in Piper's absence. Adonis and Piper's former bodyguard Bob Orton humiliated Piper on television, covering him in red lipstick and leaving him laying in the remnants of his old set. Piper returned later and destroyed the Flower Shop with a baseball bat, cutting one of the best promos of his life and challenging Adonis to a match at Wrestlemania III. When the huge event at the Pontiac Silverdome came around, it was billed as Piper's retirement match. In reality, Piper's acting career had taken off and he was looking to make a career change full time. While Piper was actually a decent actor, he returned to the territory at Wrestlemania V, covering Morton Downey Jr. with a fire extinguisher and creating another legendary moment.
