WWE: 9 Famous Wrestling Retirements (That Were Total Lies)

2. Ric Flair

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYGaiMRMWWc This entry is probably the saddest one on the list. Ric Flair is quite simply the best professional wrestler of all time and deserved a send-off fit for a king. Flair was in the twilight of his career in November 2007 when he came out to the ring and announced that he loved professional wrestling and would never retire. Vince McMahon countered by coming out and proclaimed that Flair would be forced to retire if he lost a one-on-one match. Backstage, Flair did not want to retire. WWE wanted to phase him out as an active wrestler and use in him in public relations situations and in occasional TV situations. Flair defeated a number of upper card wrestlers until he finally ran into Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania XXIV. In an emotional finish, Shawn ended Ric Flair's career with a superkick and left Flair in tears. The next night on Raw was basically Ric Flair Appreciation Night as many legends from the past were brought back to celebrate Flair's career and pay tribute to all his contributions to the industry. In a huge show of respect, the entire WWE locker room came out on the entrance ramp and gave Flair a standing ovation as Raw went off the air. It was the end that Flair's career deserved however, due to a combination of his financial troubles and a love for the wrestling business, Ric couldn't stay away. He joined Hulk Hogan's Hulkamania tour in Australia before signing with TNA in 2010. Honestly, the less is said about Flair's TNA run, the better.
