WWE: 9 Story Lines In Early 1999 That Sucked

4. Sable Turns Heel

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xMOjhs_Qss 1998 was a breakout year for Sable. After being the valet of Marc Mero for a year-plus, Mero grew jealous and turned on Sable. The resulting feud had Sable get her revenge over Mero and his new valet Jacqueline. At Survivor Series 1998, Sable became the new WWF Women's Champion, reviving a title that had been defunct since 1995. Going into 1999, Sable was a star. With sex as one of the major selling points of the WWF, the gorgeous Sable was featured alongside Mankind, Kane, and the Undertaker in commercials and ads. Then Playboy happened and Sable was now a megastar. So how does the WWF capitalized on this? They turn her heel. Blending real-life into story-line, Sable became a bitchy diva, who was too good for the WWF. Regardless, she was still cheered. Even after bringing in weightlifter Nicole Bass as muscle, Sable was still cheered because she was hot. The situation got so bad between Sable and WWF that even though she won an evening-gown match against Debra, Commissioner Shawn Michaels awarded the Women's Title to a half-naked Debra. It was Sable's last WWF appearance for three years as she left and sued the company claiming sexual harassment, later settling out of court. After a more pleasant run in 2002-2004, Sable left WWF for good and is now breeding Brock Lesnar's mutant children on a farm in rural Minnesota.
