WWE: Analysis Of Every Wrestlemania

Wrestlemania XVII - April 1, 2001

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vbIu0JF3Q4 Venue: The Reliant Astrodome in Houston, Texas Attendance: 67,925 The Rock and Stone Cold were back mixing it up in the main even of Wrestlemania XVII in a far superior PPV to the previous year. Bizarrely however this time it was Austin who played the role of heel sharing a hug with his arch nemesis Vince McMahon in the closing moments after hitting Rocky with 16 consecutive chair shots to win the WWF Championship. This was a fantastic new spin on the companies top feud and is something they really should consider for Rock/Cena 2 at Wrestlemania 29. Other highlights of the night included the first Wrestlemania encounter between Undertaker and Triple H, a father son brawl with Vince fighting his son Shane, a 15 minute wrestling lesson featuring Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit and the official Tables, Ladders and Chairs rematch between The Dudley Boyz, Hardy Boyz and Edge and Christian. The weakest match of the night was the fun but predictable 'Gimmick Battle Royal'. Despite being virtually mobile the match was won by The Iron Sheik and featured such 'greats' as Tugboat, Duke The Dumpster Droese, Repo Man and PS Michael Hayes who looked absolutely ridiculous reliving his old Freebird gimmick.
