WWE And Impact Wrestling: 7 Worst Moments Of The Week (Mar 5)
4. What To Do With Mickie
Mickie’s return to WWE should be an example of why all the women wrestlers in the company should be on the same show for now. Basically, you can either have one really good women’s division, or two mediocre ones (same with the tag teams). You also are then forced to rush through storylines and overexpose everyone, so no one benefits as much as they should.
WWE brought Mickie back into the fold, but didn’t want her to go over Becky Lynch. That’s fine if the long-term goal is to make the younger wrestler look like a star. But that also requires patience to build up to something fans want to see. Vince McMahon had very little of it, and didn’t put over Mickie’s legacy in a meaningful way. So when she lost multiple times, it didn’t feel like much was accomplished.
There’s also nowhere else to go with her for now from a character standpoint. There aren’t a dozen other women on the show for her to work with to prop herself back up again. There’s no Shining Stars or James Ellsworth-type to speak of. The only person she can feud with on her brand, who isn’t already tied up in an angle or injured, is Carmella. Y-i-k-e-s.
