WWE And TNA: 6 Worst Moments Of The Week (July 12)
3. Kane On Vacation
In the Beast in the East special on the WWE Network, we saw that there's at least one place on the planet where Kane is still considered a monster. He received a big pop from the Japanese crowd, and wrestled an effective big man style. When the company came back stateside, they couldn't wait to remind us that he's still just a big old clown! Doink 2015! Raw went into extra wacky mode this week with the cartoon cutouts of J and J Security travelling the country, and a series of Kane's vacation photos from his trip to Hawaii. A few days earlier, WWE did the exact same thing online. But someone in management found the idea so funny that they re-did the photos and put them on-air. Sure, they were kind of funny, because they looked so obviously awful, but they also further devalued Kane as a performer. And (overthinking this) from a storyline standpoint are we supposed to believe those photos were real? Or did The Authority pay someone to put them together for some reason? Imagine Kane had been protected these past few years. Had he not been wrestling every week for no reason, had he not suffered loss after loss after loss for no long term benefit. Had he not just been wearing black slacks because it kind of looks funny. The contrast from Japan to America highlighted the booking mistakes of one wrestler, a man who used to draw some money for the company. But time and time again, WWE will quickly go for a cheap, bad joke over long-term planning.
As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at."
Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week.
