WWE And TNA: 7 Worst Moments Of The Week (Feb 14)

1. Daniel Byan Retires

This isn€™t just the worst of the week, this is the worst of the worst, one of the worst wrestling stories to happen in years. We should have another decade of Daniel Bryan in professional wrestling. It€™s bizarre to think of how quickly the man ascended to the top of the sport, and so shortly after getting there was injured. We were teased with a brief return, but then he was gone again. This time for good. Despite the sadness I feel for him, I can€™t help but be a bit mad. The man lived and breathed professional wrestling, and put his body through a tremendous amount of abuse. In his last run, instead of playing it safe, he was taking dangerous overhead suplexes from Luke Harper in a meaningless SmackDown match. He was still performing the top rope headbutt, and no one stopped him. This is a move that Harley Race used to do, and he later warned of the dangers of it. Chris Benoit had it in his arsenal, and it gave him concussion after concussion. Bryan continued the tradition, using it countless times in a WWE ring. Not Vince, or Hunter, or anyone in power told him to stop. For better and for worse, Bryan€™s career may most closely resemble Mick Foley. A charismatic underdog who didn€™t have the traditional look that makes it in the business. However, they€™re two men that should have slowed down a bit, and not taken so many crazy bumps once they reached the peak. Their careers would have been extended, and more importantly, had better long-term health. Those in power were caught up with €œYes!€ when all they had to do was say €œno.€ Maybe with Bryan the damage was already done, and it was only a matter of time before he'd have to give up his passion. But hopefully those who compete in the ring, and those who make the decisions learn a lesson. And no matter what, it was a hell of a ride with Bryan. He will be greatly missed on our screens. Job well done American Dragon. Time to kick out.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
