WWE And TNA: 7 Worst Moments Of The Week (Feb 19)
2. This Would Have Been Great...At A Later Point In Time
Remember the "Boyhood Dream" storyline of Shawn Michaels finally winning the WWE Title? A big reason why that felt so special was because it took Shawn eight long years of being in the company to finally win it. It took Bret Hart about seven. Bayley did it in seven months. She was the biggest underdog of the three.
I’m not sure if this is going to stand, but having her winning the Women’s Title was way, way too early. When she first came up to the roster, the plan seemed obvious: have her play that same beloved underdog character she played in NXT but on much a larger level. She’d struggle to beat some of the midcard wrestlers, then slowly work her way up to the top. She'd experience setback after setback, but remain hopeful in defeat. Then one day, well into the future, she would win the Women's Title from Charlotte and we'd have one of the best feel good moments in years. None of that happened.
For starters, at times there has only been five other women on the Raw roster for her to feud with. There isn’t a midcard to speak of. So creative had her beat Charlotte multiple times in singles and tag matches, which made that eventual, amazing moment down the road completely disappear. The story was rewritten and it was a lot worse off for it. The underdog jumped to the top in no time, but all those chapters in between were supposed to be the good parts. Imagine how great Bayley vs. Charlotte for the first time ever at Mania could have been. Patience pays off so much, but the company has so very little of it.
At the very least, couldn't WWE have held off more than one day after Naomi won her first Women's Title?
