WWE And TNA: 7 Worst Moments Of The Week (July 20)
5. TNAs Identity Crisis
Last week I wrote about TNA hauling out Tommy Dreamer and Bully Ray for a big storyline makes the company seem dated. This weeks Impact made it appear that TNA was proudly embracing that fact. Impact opened up inside of the Manhattan Center (where Raw debuted in 1993), with Taz cutting a promo about the TNA roster. He said the look he sees in the wrestlers eyes in the locker room reminds him of the days he was in ECW, and how his current company is about to turn a corner. The crowd went crazy chanting E-C-W. That shouldnt be the letters Dixie Carter was hoping to hear. Then the first actual wrestlers of the night came out: Bully Ray and Tommy Dreamer. Two guys that are still playing off their ECW tenure! Shouldnt the first wrestlers that TNA brought out have been some of the upcoming stars that Taz was referring to? Shouldnt TNA aspire to have the crowds chant T-N-A instead of a dead company that is owned by their far more successful rival? Well, considering that this appears to be the 35th reboot of the company, we wont have to wait too long for the next one, which hopefully will be inspired from something that at least happened after 2002.
As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at."
Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week.
