Why does WWE always, always, always have to over expose a new or returning talent? This company has absolutely jaded me. Instead of seeing Del Rio return after over a year away, and getting to think about all the storyline possibilities, my excitement immediately turns to How long will it take before he feels like just another wrestler? Well, when WWE books the man in four matches in five days thats a pretty damn good sign it wont take long! Del Rio does NOT need to be re-established. He beat John Cena, that should be the story. Make him feel special, and only have him wrestle a couple times a month. Make his matches mean something. He doesnt need to beat R-Truth on SmackDown. Having him show up, without much hype, and wrestling a meaningless match defines him down more than anything. Remember when The Dudley Boyz came back and how cool that was...for like a week? They returned to the August 24th Raw, and were in the ring three days later. In a little over two months, theyve had 15 more televised matches since then. Neville debuted on the main roster on March 30. He had 10 televised matches within one month. Both of those acts now feel like anyone else on the roster. Does anyone get excited seeing them anymore? Give it two more weeks, and Del Rio will join them in the dangerously ever-expanding group of overexposed mid-carders. While its great to see Del Rio return, this wasnt the only worst moment he was involved in, due to no fault of his own...
As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at."
Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week.
