WWE And TNA: 7 Worst Moments Of The Week (July 6)

2. 15 Times

WWE.comWWE.comNothing screams boring in WWE like John Cena holding the World Title. As the announcers point out, he€™s now held one of the main titles 15 times in his career. His first title win was on April 3, 2005. His most recent one was at Money in the Bank. That means 15 runs in under nine years. The only man that he trails at this point, Ric Flair, held a world title 16 times over the course of 19 years. That€™s a much longer time span of going back to the same well over and over again. Now, Vince McMahon clearly doesn€™t care about Flair€™s almost all one of his runs didn€™t happen in his company. He€™d love to have one of his own stars take that record, which is what we will likely see happen within the next year or so. This is just something we as fans will have to accept. WWE could at least make it a little easier on us, though, by not touting Cena as the €œgreatest WWE superstar of all time.€ That seems to be laying it on a little thick. No matter what criteria you measure Cena up against WWE€™s greats, he doesn€™t come out on top. Most universally loved? Absolutely not. From Undertaker to HBK to The Rock to Steve Austin, they all received far more positive crowd reactions than he has. Looking at workrate, he€™s a good wrestler, but not an all-time great. How about selling tickets? No, again, he€™s not in the same league as Hogan or Austin were. And let€™s just say from a pure €œwrestling is real€ standpoint. Well, Sammartino went years without losing, as did Bob Backlund and Hogan. The point is, the more WWE tries to get us to believe that Cena is the all-time, undisputable best, the more backlash they€™re going to create. That's not something that Cena needs any more of at this point if WWE wants to keep adult male fans invested in their product.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
