WWE Backlash 1999: 5 Awesome Things And 5 That Sucked

2. Triple H Defeats His Former Friend X-Pac

WWE.comWWE.comTriple H was a babyface for about a year before this as the leader of Degeneration X, but then WWE realized they needed more heels so he ended up turning on his DX buddies at WrestleMania and he still had Chyna with him. It's one of those matches that a lot of us have likely forgotten about just because of how many great matches they have had over the years, especially Triple H. It was also weird seeing Triple H wrestling in tights although he did that a lot earlier in his career. He also wasn't as big as he was about a year after this, but that's part of him evolving as a character too. It was a long match that went nearly 20 minutes. At no point did it seem like X-Pac was going to win. He was always the kind of guy that was fine as a midcarder, but there was not enough believability in him as a wrestler to really make him a top guy. The finish saw X-Pac accidentally dropkick the referee after Triple H threw him in front of him. Chyna hit a low blow and reverse DDT on X-Pac. Then Kane showed up to help X-Pac, who he was tag team champions with. He gave Chokeslams to Triple H and Chyna as JR was yelling about how she deserved it. After Kane left, Triple H was able to come back and win with a Pedigree.
