WWE Backlash 2016: 10 Awesome Moments

9. Baron Corbin & Apollo Crews Shine Given Time

Problems remain with Apollo Crews, those writing the storylines just haven't given the man any kind of personality to speak of during his run thus far. By contrast, Baron Corbin is a more clearly-defined character. He's a bully, one who revels in using size to his advantage. The whole thing is simple, but it's effective.

Set up by Daniel Bryan on the Kickoff show, Corbin and Crews met later on, just before the proper pay-per-view portion of Backlash went on the air. More often than not, matches occurring on the Kickoff are short and relatively routine. Strikingly, Crews vs. Corbin was anything but, these men were out to prove a point.

Just shy of ten minutes after the bell had started ringing, Corbin got the win. It's a testament to how wise a decision it was to allow these guys time to develop their issue, because the live audience were responding to their every move before the finish.

Now, if only WWE would actually hand Apollo Crews something that complements his sterling in-ring work. That has never been the issue, it's his lack of character which hurts.
