WWE Backlash 2023: 10 Nightmares That Could Come True

3. Cody Rhodes Is Heartbroken Again!

One of WrestleMania 39's most iconic images was a crestfallen Cody Rhodes attempting to process his loss to Roman Reigns in the main event. Fans were doing the same - many couldn't believe that "finish the story" didn't end on the grandest stage, and some are still salty about Roman holding onto his belts.

WWE can still fix this, but they must keep Cody strong and push him towards that new World Heavyweight Title before the summer is out. Or, perhaps Triple H and Vince McMahon will scheme more misery for Rhodes, and make fans wonder if he's ever going to hit the heights that once seemed inevitable.

Bummer.

You know what that means, don't you? It means Brock Lesnar would be the beneficiary of such booking and score a win over Cody at Backlash. Closing another pay-per-view with one very sad Rhodes looking all heartbroken would be a major risk from WWE, but things might go down that way.
