WWE Backlash 2024: 10 Nightmares That Could Come True
9. Sami Zayn Loses Far Too Soon
Cody Rhodes wasn't the only guy who lived a dream at 'Mania. Sami Zayn did too, and his wonderful Intercontinental Title triumph over record-shattering ex-champ GUNTHER will live long in the memory. The nightmare suggestion here is that winning it was actually the sole peak moment of Sami's latest stint with the famous championship.
He may well be a transitional champion at best.
There will be a few raised eyebrows and tutting responses to that, of course. Nobody wants to think about Zayn dropping the IC belt just yet, but...what if that's the plan? Granted, WWE hasn't officially announced anything for Sami at Backlash either. A three-way vs. Chad Gable and Bronson Reed is incoming though.
At time of writing, Backlash only has five matches scheduled. Trips will presumably add at least one more to the lineup, and either the IC or Women's World Titles are in the frame for that spot. If it's the former, then fingers crossed Zayn doesn't eat a loss.
