WWE Backlash 2025: 7 Nightmares That Could Come True
1. John Cena’s Title Reign Lasts One Month
What was that about things that won't happen? If Jacob Fatu isn't dropping the United States Title, then there's simply no way John Cena is shedding his WWE belt so soon after winning the thing. Or, is he? Backlash 2025 certainly wouldn't be the first time a promoter has booked a rapid title turnaround just to swerve fans and keep people guessing, and the PLE is in Randy Orton's St. Louis stomping ground.
Chaos could rule the day. Everyone from Cody Rhodes and Travis Scott to The Rock himself could get involved in Cena's final match vs. Orton on Saturday, and we might end up with a shock title switch as a result. That sounds far-fetched but again...this is pro wrestling. Did anyone think Cena was going to turn heel in 2025, for example? Nope, not one soul.
Few would be against seeing Randy hoist a shiny thing above his head again in the future, but scripting John to lose his 17th top title so shortly after WrestleMania 41 would only confuse things further. People still need answers WWE just isn't keen on giving right now, so there's no need to pollute the waters before certain questions are pinned down and thrashed out.
St. Louis would pop like Chicago did for CM Punk back at Money In The Bank 2011 if Randy beat Cena to end the night as WWE Champion, but it'd be a mistake creatively. JC's title reign needs to last until SummerSlam at the earliest. At the earliest.
