WWE Battleground 2015: 10 Things We Learned
Are we headed for a WrestleMania XXX rematch?
WWE Battleground 2015 has come and gone, but for what seemed on the surface as little more than a filler Pay-Per-View on the calendar, there was an awful lot to like from the promotion's latest supershow offering. It's fascinating to sit back and realise that there are a multitude of things to take away from each WWE event, because the company is constantly evolving - perhaps a lot of this has to do with the sheer amount of content the juggernaut produces, but it gives fans a heck of a lot to talk about, which can never be considered a bad thing!
At Battleground, the seeds were planted for SummerSlam, and there was one major hint over a killer match that WWE enthusiasts could be seeing at one of the more traditional PPV events in late-August. It was likely a surprise for many to see Seth Rollins walk out of the show still WWE World Heavyweight Champion, but it makes sense, because it seems his challenger at Battleground, Brock Lesnar, has something else in store for him next month.
That, along with a whole load of other tidbits are here for everyone to dissect post-Battleground. For example, do you know who invented the Superplex? No? Well, JBL clued fans in on the show from behind the announce desk, and that wasn't all we could learn from the event.
10. WWE Playing Long Game With Sheamus
It's been pretty clear since his return earlier this year that WWE are once again extremely high on Sheamus. Longtime fans will remember the horrendous 'King Sheamus' gimmick he was forced to suffer through after winning the King Of The Ring in 2010 (something Wade Barrett is also having some difficulty with), and his career has struggled to get back on track - certainly in terms of credibility with fans - ever since.
Thankfully, that all seems to have been washed away by the big Irishman's performances since coming back. A fresh new look and a run of fine matches against the likes of Dolph Ziggler and Randy Orton have really helped, and at Battleground, the big man looked on top form in the opener against the latter.
Going down to defeat at the hands of an "out of nowhere" RKO from Orton, Sheamus is still in possession of the Money In The Bank briefcase, and this loss seems to indicate that the creative team are more than happy to take their time with things. This can only be considered a good thing, there's no need for Sheamus to cash in at the moment. In fact, is there really any need for him to cash in before WrestleMania?
