Every fan has their own opinion about John Bradshaw Layfield's ability behind the commentary desk, but every now and then the former WWE Champion does come up with something truly interesting, and it's clear he has a wealth of knowledge about the pro wrestling industry.

At Battleground, JBL clued fans in on exactly who was responsible for bringing the move known as the 'Superplex' into widespread use across North America. After 'The Viper' had caught Sheamus trying to come off the top rope, he scrambled up the turnbuckles alongside him and delivered a huge Superplex for a near fall. At this point, Layfield piped up, giving fans a intriguing little piece of knowledge that many perhaps aren't aware of.

According to the announcer, Scott Irwin - brother of Bill Irwin - was the one who popularised the use of the Superplex in mainstream North American pro wrestling. Wrestling everywhere from Mid-South and Florida, to the old WWWF (World Wide Wrestling Federation) Irwin had a roughneck style, one perfect for using reckless moves like the Superplex. It's interesting to note that this is the kind of knowledge Matt Striker used to get chastised for as a WWE announcer!
