Before Battleground, it seemed like WWE might just put their top prize back on the show they likely still regard as the flagship. Both Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins have been drafted to Monday Night Raw, but they didn't leave the pay-per-view as WWE Champion. Instead, Dean Ambrose held onto his gold and takes the title to SmackDown with him.

Fans were far from pleased when it looked like Reigns might beat Rollins and bag the belt again. Coming right out of a Powerbomb spot in the corner, he eventually hit a Spear on Seth and looked to have the match well in hand. That's when Ambrose, opportunistic and in a hurry, hit his Dirty Deeds DDT to pick up the victory.

This was big, not only for SmackDown but also for Dean Ambrose as a performer. Now, he gets to move on to something completely different on the blue brand, away from his warring ex-Shield compadres.

Seeing Ambrose defend for the third time in a week was awesome, there's no denying he deserves more time with the WWE Title.
