For a while, it seemed like WWE might simply continue airing vignette after vignette before inevitably growing bored of the whole 'Make Darren Young Great Again' idea. Things didn't seem to be going anywhere, at least until the past couple of weeks. Following a fluke win in a Battle Royal on Raw, Young is now the top contender for the WWE Intercontinental Title.

On SmackDown, he also managed to make The Miz tap out to the Cross Face Chicken Wing in tag-team fare. If WWE's familiar booking style is anything to go by, that means he won't be winning at Battleground, but what if he is slyly booked to pull off the upset?

Normally, WWE enjoy writing these underdog moments on pay-per-views. Fans have witnessed it time and time again over the years, the loudmouth heel (on this occasion The Miz) gets put in his place temporarily by the upstart babyface.

It'd be really surprising to see Young handed a run as Intercontinental Champ, especially considering how well The Miz has been working in that role, but that doesn't mean it can't happen.
