WWE Battleground 2016: 10 Things We Learned

3. The Highlight Reel Was Ultimately Hollow

It's going to be difficult for WWE to book an effective build towards Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Orton at SummerSlam. Not only have both men been drafted to different brands, but Lesnar doesn't even appear all that often on programming to begin with. Could the promotion actually be about to head into such a marquee match cold?

If The Highlight Reel from Battleground can be used to judge that idea, then there's a chance they might be. Randy Orton's comeback was always going to end with a thumping RKO, that was there to please the live crowd, but what did it really achieve?

There are way more questions than answers right now. Orton did poke fun at Brock's current performance enhancement-related issues, but that was really it. Other than that jibe and saying he wanted to go after the biggest and best, there was nothing to really sell the big match at Battleground.

WWE are going to need much more than this, but it's going to be hard to orchestrate in the current climate. People expect at least some build up these days though.
