5. Choosing Bayley As Sasha's Surprise Partner

Before Battleground, WWE had a fair few options available to them in terms of the 'mystery partner' scenario involving Sasha Banks, Charlotte and Dana Brooke. On the Kickoff show, Booker T guessed that Lita was on her way to the pay-per-view, whereas Renee Young theorised that Nikki Bella would step up to the plate.

Obviously, as soon as these choices were uttered by the talking heads, they were never going to happen. Another choice seemed to be Nia Jax, recently called up form NXT during the WWE Draft. Aside from Lita, none of these women would have received the kind of reception Bayley did.

The live audience were delighted to see the NXT starlet, and her appearance brought an immediate energy to the show. Missing out on promotion to Raw and SmackDown, Bayley quite clearly still has a bright future ahead of her on the main WWE roster.

She was the right choice at Battleground to team up with Banks, nobody else could have filled that slot quite so well.
