WWE Battleground 2016: 10 Things WWE Got Right
6. Having John Cena Get His Win Over AJ Styles In A Multi-Man Tag Match
The familiar comments were out in force as soon as John Cena pinned AJ Styles to the mat at Battleground. Some cried out that it was typical Cena was given a return victory over Styles, but what were they expecting? If anything, the former TNA and New Japan man was protected by the nature of his defeat.
Not only did it take a massive (and impressive-looking) Attitude Adjustment from the top rope to finish him off, AJ was also beaten in a match that had a lot going on. This wasn't a singles bout, like the one Styles had won at Money In The Bank, it was a six-man tag-team encounter.
Both AJ and Cena are on SmackDown after the WWE Draft, so there's a good chance issues between both men will continue after Battleground. SummerSlam seems like the likely destination to blow off the rivalry, and now both guys have one win apiece on pay-per-view over one another.
The multi-man scenario and colossal nature of the move that beat him are things AJ Styles can use in promos over the next few weeks to deflect.
