WWE: Bret Hart, WCW And What Could Have Been

Bret Hart Left A Lot Behind In WWE

Wrestlemania 10 There are very, very few wrestlers that become stars without a contingent to help them get over at some stage of their career. Triple H had D-Generation X to help him become a star, the Undertaker was elevated to another level thanks to the introduction of Kane (and vice versa), Ric Flair had the Four Horsemen and Hulk Hogan had the nWo to help him continue to be the top man at WCW. This is not a blight against any of these stars- as these are often mutually beneficial relationships that allow lower card wrestlers to get over while the star can become part of something bigger. Bret Hart had the Hart Foundation in WWE- a group of technical wrestlers without peer which included Hart, his brother Owen and the British Bulldog. However this group did not move alongside Bret Hart to WCW- a fact that became apparent in an organisation where stables were even more prevalent than they were in WWE. Furthermore, if Bret Hart was annoyed at the less family friendly stance that WWE were taking, there is little to suggest he would have been more comfortable over on the other side- with Eric Bischoff doing little to respect the giants of wrestling past to focus on the edgy nature of the nWo and similar groups. Perhaps that is why Hart himself was never part of the nWo during their initial run, but just 'assoicated' with it. In some ways, he didn't quite fit their brand. But that does not mean that Hart should not have been a better prospect in Atlanta.
