WWE: Bret Hart, WCW And What Could Have Been

Conclusions

bret hart So how could WCW have made more of Hart? For a start they should have capitalised on the Screwjob straight away so as not to allow the WWE to suddenly frame the debate. Bischoff should have been amping up the idea of 'the true champion' coming to WCW and obtaining as many old school wrestlers to back Hart up to show what a despicable turn of events the Screwjob was. As Bischoff had offended many of the old school wrestlers this may have been difficult, but surely someone could have been counted upon to speak his mind on the events at Survivor Series. Secondly the nWo should have targeted him straight away. This would have been obvious as it would have got heat with nWo which may have been lacking a bit of direction Post-Starrcade, but it would make perfect sense. Firstly Hart is clearly a believer in tradition, which the nWo is not and secondly the nWo could have seen him as a threat to their invasion. This would have given some new heat to the nWo at a time, post Starrcade '97, when their angles were becoming tiresome. Finally, Hart should have done a lot more matches with the younger talent of the company to legitimise the 'wrestling' side of WCW. While the nWo was a great angle full of colourful personalities nobody with a right mind would say they consisted of the best wrestlers in the roster. If Hart had more matches with the likes of Benoit, Jericho, Malenko, Mysterio, Guerrero and more it would do a lot to add more depth to WCW as a true standout as far as wrestling is concerned. Furthermore, it may have allowed these younger talents to get more of a leg-up for attention in a locker room where the nWo held too much sway.
