"Occasional special events" said to be part of FOX TV deal.

Barn Burner are reporting that WWE's lucrative television deal with Fox (which will see SmackDown move to the network in 2019) may also mean a return for Saturday Night's Main Event as an "occasional special event".

WWE and Fox will aim to plan the specials around other major sporting events. For example, an episode of the rehashed show could air on Saturday night before the NFL's Super Bowl goes live the following Sunday. That, theoretically, would give WWE a prime platform right before one of the year's most-watched shows.

Fox are also expected to air more NXT TakeOver events than WWE currently run on their own Network. Further, these shows would be an hour longer, making them more in step with the traditional three-hour run time for pay-per-view specials.

This reboot of Saturday Night's Main Event, once an important piece of programming on NBC between 1985-1992 and again for a shorter period between 2006-2008, will reportedly be announced before the end of the year.

Older fans will recall the show previously ran on FOX for a brief period before WWE shelved the idea in '92.
