WWE: CM Punk - 5 Awesome Matches And 5 That Sucked

5. CM Punk vs The Rock - WWE Championship - Elimination Chamber 2013

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIoYfkpfhes Many would see the Royal Rumble match between the two combatants as the one deserving of the slot here. While the Royal Rumble suffered from a complete clusterf*** of an ending as well as a collapsing Spanish announce table that looked frankly bizarre, the two superstars actually sold for each other pretty well and though the Rock did look a little puffed near the end of the match, he was good enough to get through the match without making it seem too detrimental. The Elimination Chamber match therefore was a match that reeked of the WWE panicking because they thought the idea of the Rock going through another 20+min match with CM Punk would be too much for the Brahma Bull. Whether it was true or not, it meant that the WWE tried to add a bit of storytelling onto the match by claiming that if Rock got counted out or DQed, the Rock would lose the championship. The problem was that made the first 8 mins or so were dominated by Punk obviously baiting Rock into a DQ making the match slow paced and only seeming to confirm for the WWE universe that the Rock could not work a fast paced match. Furthermore, while the Royal Rumble finish was convoluted, the Elimination Chamber match was hardly any better, with referees being tossed out and pins being missed. While there is no doubt all this was to make CM Punk seem strong as he came up against the Undertaker, there is no doubt that it did very little to endear the Rock to an audience that was already beginning to be sceptical about the Wrestlemania main event. A missed opportunity of a match.
