WWE Cruiserweight Champions: Ranked From Worst To Best
8. Matt Hardy
After floundering for a while on Smackdown, Matt Hardy (Version 1.0, of course) was finally given something to sink his teeth into February of 2003. He was, with the help of his MFer (Mattitude Follower) Shannon Moore desperately trying to cut weight so he could make the under 220lb weight limit and face Billy Kidman for the title at No Way Out.
After much exercise wearing what looked like a skin-tight bin bag and many, many glasses of banana juice, Hardy managed to make weight and faced Kidman for the title as planned. Hardy won a decent match and then went about trying to stay below 220 while entering into a feud with Rey Mysterio.
The two men kicked off WrestleMania XIX in style, with Hardy retaining thanks to some help from Moore. That was, unfortunately, his only PPV title defence but he still had entertaining TV matches and formed a fun tag team with Moore, going against teams such as Rey Mysterio & Brian Kendrick and Los Guerreros.
Hardy lost the title in style, too, dropping it to Rey Mysterio in the main event of the June 5th episode of Smackdown. It was the first time that a Cruiserweight Title match had main evented the blue show and both Mysterio and Hardy did a great job, contesting a dramatic, back-and-forth match.
Some tend to forget about Matt Hardy V1's Cruiserweight Title reign but it produced some good television and showed his versatility.
