WWE CWC: 10 Things We Learned From The First Episode
4. Saez Has THE Greatest Facial Expressions
Having dramatically made the tournament weight cut by the
absolute skin of his teeth, it seemed like Alejandro Saez might have a
meaningful storyline heading into the CWC.
However, his first round defeat to Gran Metalik abruptly ended the possibility of his weight change being used as an angle. Still, Saez managed to make quite the impression before becoming the first man knocked out of the tournament—thanks partly to his awesome facial expressions.
His absolute disbelief at Metalik’s ability to escape his wristlock, his utter astonishment at his opponent kicking out of a simple seated dropkick, and that eye-popping gaze that followed Metalik’s splash from the top rope, were just a few of Saez’s highlights.
And the way he hung his head in shame as Metalik’s hand was raised in victory was the icing on the cake.
It was all enough to turn a potentially vanilla character into an entertaining one—without veering onto the wrong side of slapstick.
