WWE: Dolph Ziggler Should Gain From Chris Jericho & Randy Orton's Suspensions
Can Dolph Ziggler be the one to fill an opening and profit from others misfortune?
With top flight Superstars Chris Jericho and Randy Orton both being suspended by WWE in the past week there is now an opening available at the top of the ladder for a semi-main eventer. Can Dolph Ziggler be the one to fill this opening and profit from others misfortune. WWE has taken two major blows this week . Firstly Chris Jericho, whilst on Tour in Brazil, unintentionally broke the law during an in-ring segment with CM Punk where he kicked the National flag, an act in which the Brazilian authorities did not look to kindly upon. To save himself a spell in jail Chris Jericho had to immediately apologise to the audience for his actions. The misled affair subsequently got him a 30 day suspension. Then, only a few days removed from the Jericho incident WWE announced that they had suspended Randy Orton due to the second failing of their wellness policy. As this is Orton's second wellness failure his suspension will last for 60 days. To WWE this is a major setback as only in the past few weeks they had started to initiate an Orton vs Jericho programme. On Monday night with no Jericho for Randy Orton to continue his feud with, "The Viper" played a part on the show by going out and RKO'ing The Miz, much to the delight of the WWE crowd who had endured the Awesome ones whining and moaning about his own status. It is unknown whether WWE had intended to set something up with Miz and Orton going forward or whether it was the start for Dolph Ziggler who made comments on the Vipers' impact, stating to Vickie backstage that it should be him out there in reference to Orton. If the latter was the desired road WWE intended to go down with an Orton vs Ziggler match at WWE No Way Out, then it only strengthens the possibility of what could now be in store for Ziggler. With both top flight stars Chris Jericho and Randy Orton now out for 30 and 60 days respectfully (While Y2J has tweeted that he won't be returning this likely to be a Jericho swerve) this leaves a big hole in WWE programming and an even bigger opportunity for a rising star. WWE will have no option other than to have elevate one of the mid carders and have them step up to the plate and there is no reason why this opportunity shouldn't be given to Dolph Ziggler. Since Dolph debuted in WWE back in 2008 (let's forget his stint as Spirit Squad member Nicky) Ziggler has spent the last 2 years of his WWE career associated with Vickie Guerruero coupled with the fact he has spent far to much time being paired with Jack Swagger. While Swagger has the in-ring ability to carry himself he lacks the style and charisma to be associated with Ziggler. The weight of both Vickie and Swagger is a heavy one to carry and it's about time Ziggler goes along his own path. Whether it be joining AW's stable, where he could be pushed as the top asset much the same way Triple H utilised himself in Evolution, or taking on Mason Ryan to be his heavy as it has been tested out at house shows, with Ziggler doing all the mic work and ring action and Ryan dishing out the dirty ringside. Or even just going it alone, no Vickie, no Swagger, no AW, no Mason Ryan, nobody. This last option seems like the better, with nobody to hold him down or share his spotlight it would mean all eyes are on the Showoff, it would purely be his charisma and and ring ability that would catapult him to grab onto one of those imaginary brass rings. In the ring Ziggler is one of the most competent, devoted in-ring performers WWE has today. His commitment to an opponent is inspiring, putting them over with such will and enthusiasm, making even wrestler he faces look like a monster, Superstars must be lining up to be his opponent. Remember Brodus Clay's headbutt a few weeks back? The way Dolph Ziggler initiated and sold that move did more for the Funkasaurus in 5 seconds than had been done in the weeks since his debut. His scrap with CM Punk back at the Royal Rumble was an exciting and enjoyable match, proof that he has what it takes to main event and compete for a World title. Throughout the match Punk and Ziggler put on good show and up until the last few minutes of the bout Ziggler was presented and came across as Punk's equal. It should also be noted that both Vickie and Swagger had been banned from ringside, thus allowing Ziggler to work of his own hype and momentum and not rely on the usual suspects. These 60 days could very well be the calling for Dolph Ziggler, at the moment there is really no one else who can be elevated in such circumstances. Cody Rhodes is already in a feud with Christian for the Intercontinental title, Jack Swagger was paired with Vickie and Ziggler in the first place because of his inability to get over with the fans, Zack Ryder has fallen so far off the scope he has featured in nothing more than jobber duty as of late. Lord Tensai is currently undergoing a make over and has been relegated to Superstars until his character transition has been complete. While the Miz has seemed to be in his own little lull since Wrestlemania, appearing briefly and with no real sense of direction, whereas Ziggler has had continuous solid air time. When Ziggler was handed the World Heavyweight title during his feud with Edge, his reign lasted all of 10 minutes. At the time this was a good thing as Ziggler wasn't ready for the main event stage. Now however, Ziggler has proven himself in the ring, on the mic and the sheer arrogance he brings confirms his time has come. The question is, does WWE feel the same way? As a fan who is craving fresh talent within the main events, I hope so and I believe I speak for many others too.
