WWE Draft 2016: 5 Things That Will Happen (And 5 That Won't)

3. There WILL Be A Second World Title

Like it or not, a second World Championship is on the way. It’s been anticipated for months, and WWE should confirm the news next week. Pretty soon, Dean Ambrose won’t be the company’s only “top champion", and Raw and SmackDown will both have their own belt for aspiring title-holders to work towards.

Many fans would prefer for a single World Champion to float between both brands. With two belts, it’s impossible for one not to come-off as more prestigious, and that’s exactly what happened back in 2002. For all intents and purposes, the WWE Title remained the company’s true “top belt,” while the World Heavyweight Championship was considered second best despite WWE’s continued assertions that it was just as worthy a prize.

While creating a second major championship gives talent a chance to become “World Champion” that might not have existed otherwise, it dilutes the belt’s value and creates confusion among fans. There were times during the initial brand split where both belts were treated equally, but those were few and far between. History suggests that one championship will be relegated to B-level status sooner rather than later.
