This Friday, live on FOX, WWE will present the latest chapter in their ongoing obsession with brand division between Raw and SmackDown. It's been a tempestuous relationship over the years, one blighted by maddening decision-making, more jumps than the Olympics and occasional abandonment.

This time, they say, things will be different. Then again, they always say that.

It's not hard to see why WWE scheduled the Draft's start for FOX. That network has become a hotbed of real sports, and acceptance in a world of NFLs and MLBs means a great deal to Vince McMahon. That, if it happens, would be a step forward in his quest to push "sports entertainment" over "professional wrestling".

Further, it's vital that SmackDown gets off to a hot start on its new channel. Expect Raw to be pushed to the background once occupied by blue, and expect this Draft to be a barometer WWE can use to either define the rest of 2019 into 2020 or scrap when they inevitably grow tired of it six months from now.
