WWE Elimination Chamber 2017 - 6 Positives And 4 Negatives
9. Negative: This Week’s Main Event On SmackDown
Speaking of WrestleMania, with Randy Orton winning the Royal Rumble and John Cena now holding the WWE title, that means that those two are currently set to make up the SmackDown main event for the show.
And yet, they gave away this match on free television this week with Cena overcoming Orton in a 12-minute throwaway meeting.
Now, the obvious explanation here would be that Cena isn’t leaving the Elimination Chamber as champion and so Orton vs. Cena isn't going to be one of our WrestleMania main events. But in that case, doesn’t staging that match on SmackDown this week just give away the result of the Elimination Chamber?
Granted, Bray Wyatt had been hotly-tipped to take the title home anyway, but that outcome now looks all-but-certain.
Maintaining the idea that Orton vs. Cena would be our WrestleMania main event—and therefore not giving the match away on weekly programming—would at least have preserved some uncertainty surrounding the Elimination Chamber match. Now, though, it looks like a foregone conclusion.
Still, on the bright side at, least it means we’ll be spared any further Orton vs. Cena rematches.
Hopefully...
