WWE Elimination Chamber 2017 - 6 Positives And 4 Negatives
8. Negative: Dolph Ziggler In A Handicap Match
Another bone to pick, this time in terms of the logic behind Ziggler’s handicap match.
This week on SmackDown, having lost to Apollo Crews in singles action, Ziggler once again indulged his newfound hobby of going after both Crews, as well as an interfering Kalisto, in a chair-laden assault. This led to him boldly claiming that he could beat Crews and Kalisto at the same time, if he really wanted, which naturally led to Bryan calling him out on that and announcing Ziggler vs. Kalisto and Crews in a handicap match for Elimination Chamber.
Let’s think about that for a second. Kalisto and Crews, the good guys in all this, are going to gang up for a two-on-one match against Ziggler who’s supposedly the bad guy. Does that not sound the wrong way around to you?
Handicap matches make sense if the face is the one with the odds against him. In this case, though, with the odds against Ziggler (and despite his recent antics), he’s the one we should be sympathetic towards. Having the good guys go after the bad guy in an unfair fight just reduces them to his level and is at odds with how babyfaces should be booked.
