Kofi Kingston was the undoubted star of that SmackDown Gauntlet last Tuesday, and he rocked the house again in Houston at Elimination Chamber. Fans inside the Toyota Center were desperate to see him upset the odds and become the new WWE Champion.

People lost their inhibitions, and adults could be seen tearing their hair out when Daniel Bryan kicked out of some ludicrously close near falls. That, ladies and gents, is the sign of a truly great, organic story that fans have latched onto and taken ownership of.

To the folks in Texas on Sunday, Kofi could do no wrong. He was akin to Bryan himself several years earlier; an underdog who maybe, just maybe, would pull it off and send them home happy.

It didn't happen, and therein lies the beauty of it. What an excellently-crafted plot, one that had folks biting nails, holding onto those next to them and wondering if they might be part of yet more WWE history.
