1. The Rock Vs. John Cena II Is Set For Wrestlemania XXIX
It has been set for this year's card, and it has been a year in the making, but once again The Rock and John Cena will compete in a match that's "Twice in a Lifetime", only this time the WWE Championship will be on the line. To get to this point required the Rock to once again defeat CM Punk for the Championship, and I personally felt that their second outing surpassed their first effort in terms of both ring-craft and storytelling. The drama was most prominently led by Punk, who controlled most of the pace of the match, and would play the villain well by encouraging Rock to get disqualified or punishing him until he was counted out. This punishment included a Rock Bottom by Punk on the Champion onto a pretty solid Spanish announce table, but still Rock would not stay down. In a frantic climax which saw two referees go down, a GTS that went uncapitalised due to the downed officials, a People's Elbow and two Rock Bottoms, it came down to Punk missing a wild swing at Rock with the title and instead hitting his confidante Paul Heyman, which led to The Rock connecting with his second Rock Bottom and getting the all important three count. Cue widespread hysteria from the excitable crowd in New Orleans as The Rock booking his place in the main event of this upcoming Wrestlemania. The only question is that with all the hype that was surrounding their once in a lifetime encounter last year, will The Rock and John Cena be able to build upon those foundations at Wrestlemania XXIX? It is difficult to say. Perhaps this match will benefit from not having such a weight of expectation due to the fact it will only be built up for a month rather than a full year, and if the matches between The Rock and CM Punk were any indication, it appears that the second time with the Great One is usually the charm. But I would advise caution in getting any hopes up about this surpassing their impressive match from Wrestlemania XXVIII, because it will be difficult to recapture the emotion and passion that had been charged into that rivalry. Effectively, this year the match is the WWE Champion defending against the winner of the Royal Rumble. But there will be much more to be said and done before the WWE rolls into the Metlife Stadium on April 7th, and I hope that the spark that exists between the two after last year will be well and truly ignited by the conclusion of the Superbowl of Pro Wrestling.
