Everyone from Bayley, Sasha Banks and Carmella to Molly Holly, Trish Stratus and Beth Phoenix had a childlike wonder in their eyes at Evolution. Critics will always have their say (that's just the way it is), but the fact is this show meant the world to these women. They're fully entitled to enjoy that.

For their part, WWE decided to take a backwards step and refrain from shining the spotlight of praise on themselves. From the off, the Kickoff show was crammed with a feeling of happiness and excitement for the performers who had made this happen, and Phoenix added a nice touch by thanking men like Fit Finlay who had always stood up for women in the company.

That was unexpected, and nicer for the surprise.

Throughout the night, some talking head segments added to the occasion by revealing how much of a landmark this was. Four years ago, WWE wouldn't have put on a card of female matches, so the tears of Banks and others were real. They know how far they've come.
