It's a risky move from WWE to have their red-hot new babyfaces bash the original Extreme Championship Wrestling. Paul Heyman's group is still cherished to this day, but that didn't stop Big Cass from running it down at Extreme Rules. Meanwhile, The Dudley Boyz just had to stand there and take it.

As Bubba Ray and D-Von continued insulting the live crowd during their own promo, Cass emerged and ran through his familiar catchphrases. The audience were right there with him, but it was weird to see Cass then badmouth ECW. The whole thing just came across as crass (Big Crass?) and unnecessary.

WWE were obviously trying to put over this 'new era' in the company, but doing so at ECW's expense? There's no need for that, it's a tactic that won't work.

Cass said that he'd show The Dudleyz exactly what Extreme Rules were all about, something they couldn't do in their "bingo halls". Ouch. This is one promo that few could see coming, but it took place on the Kickoff show, so not many people picked up on it.
