WWE Extreme Rules 2022: 10 Nightmares That Could Come True
8. Sheamus Gets A “Soft” Win
This piece is being erm...pieced together before Sheamus wrestles Gunther on the season premiere edition of SmackDown. There, the Clash At The Castle show-stealers will hack lumps off one another yet again for the revitalised Intercontinental Title, and it's logical to assume that Gunther will retain.
Typical WWE booking would then give Sheamus a "soft" victory over the Austrian to make up for that, but they shouldn't do it. Extreme Rules' bold "Good Old Fashioned Donnybrook" brawl should either give Butch and Ridge Holland a leg-up in importance, or do the same for Giovanni Vinci and Ludwig Kaiser.
Putting Sheamus over the champ 24 hours after losing a hot title match on TV would be a goodwill gesture to the Irishman and nothing more. Nobody wants to see him Brogue Kick the reigning champion then pose over Gunther's body just for the hell of it.
That'd feel back-to-front with the title bout on Friday night.
