One of the big questions going into the Fastlane pay-per-view was what WWE would do in the match between Chris Jericho and AJ Styles. Looking at things in a decidedly cynical way, the company could have been expected to 'protect their own' and have Y2J leave as the victor. It was therefore refreshing that they chose to honour their faith in a new signing. AJ Styles may well be in his late-30's, but he's still a relatively new face on the WWE landscape. He deserves the chance to gain as much credibility in the 'land of the giants' as he can, and quickly. Jericho was the perfect opponent for him to conduct a series against, because the veteran knows the WWE system incredibly well and is of a similar stature to Styles. After AJ had picked up the win, there was a handshake between both men, Jericho still seems to be hinting at a heel turn sometime in the near future, which could open up the opportunity for a WrestleMania collision between the duo. That may be overkill, but at least Styles was given the chance to defeat such an established WWE name in his first singles pay-per-view match with the company.
