This all feels like a stark reminder that the product doesn't belong to the fans. It doesn't belong to the pundits. It also doesn't belong to the upcoming talent, or even those who storyline should dictate would be in the power positions. It belongs to WWE, and as long as it does, they'll do what they want for the PPVs they want.

And everyone will still buy in anyway. The frustrating thing of course is that they didn't even need to do this to sell more buys for Mania...

The belt is meaningless to that fight, because it's a big enough deal anyway: putting it into the mix just devalues it and elevates a part-time exhibition match into something it doesn't deserve to be. And that just makes storyline look like a secondary concern once the big PPVs come around, which is really not what they ought to be going for.

But, because WWE needed Goldberg to win and to look even more like a sledge-hammer - and hang the consequences to Kevin Owens - we now get an entire match that fits into a GIF...
