'Doing a Bret Hart' in this instance means throwing an almighty temper tantrum and demanding an explanation from WWE management for what just happened. Bret did that to great effect during his slow-burn heel turn towards the end of 1996 into 1997, and Bryan could borrow his outrage here.

He'd be furious that Edge, who wasn't even supposed to be involved in Universal Title business until WrestleMania 37, had cost him the chance to live out his dreams one last time. Going mad, Bryan would throw furniture around ringside, rag doll one of the announcers and generally lose his mind.

This is something he could apologise for later on SmackDown, but definitely not in the heat of the moment. Bryan already showed a slight heel vibe by hitting Edge with that running knee recently, so it wouldn't be totally out of character.
