WWE Giving Aiden English A Big Push Following Simon Gotch's Departure?

Simon Gotch became WWE's third major release of 2017 earlier this week, joining Rosa Mendes and Jack Swagger, who left the company in February and March respectively. As announced on WWE.com on Wednesday, the former Vaudevillain requested his release, and he and the company parted on mutually agreed terms.

This has brought the future of his tag team partner Aiden English, but rather than damaging English's career, the departure could have a silver lining. According to this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter, English is set to receive a singles push on SmackDown, and could revert to the singing gimmick he previously used in NXT.

A former musical theatre performer, the role would suit English, who had been stuck in a dead-end as one half of The Vaudevillains. Whether it results in him moving up the card is another matter entirely, however.

There had been speculation on Gotch's release ever since his backstage fight with Sin Cara last year, and the Observer notes that his personality often rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. There has been no official word on what prompted his departure, but Gotch has denied claims that it was related to his attitude:-
