Conclusions
When looking back it the Miz's championship run it is easy to judge it as a bust simply because it wasn't as memorable as some title reigns. However, as much as the title was a great honour, it was also a bit of a poisoned chalice, as it was clear that the Miz was only in the title picture for as long as the WWE could use him to build up the feud that they truly wanted to make happen- the Rock and John Cena. Having said that, there is no doubt that if the Miz was given the opportunity to be put over as an opponent who would willingly stoop to any level to hold onto that championship, and if the commentary team was more focused on putting him over as credible, rather than fuelling the fire for their own feud, the Miz may have been remembered more fondly as a heel champion. Furthermore, if more was made of his time as a late night talk show guest and a fame-obsessed champion, then the WWE could have played on the angle that they are trying to do today with Bryan- that the Miz could be what was 'best for business'. After all, he was on all the cable chat shows promoting the WWE, what more could the powers that be want? The Miz is never going to be CM Punk but his championship reign with the title was a bit of a lost opportunity for the WWE to make him into a main event player of the Chris Jericho mould- that could then settle back into the midcard and be relied upon to be the 'big challenge' for the up and comers or step up to the main event when needed.
